St Barth’s is a beautiful island that has a very trendy French style to it. The general feeling of the place is exclusive. Along the main road you will find Hermes, Louis Vuitton and countless boutiques.
Towards the middle of the season, I have been told, St Barth’s is teeming with super yachts and beautiful people. Oh, and of course, lots of white linen. It seems to be the uniform of the uber cool on islands like this. It is a whole outfit – white linen pants, white linen shirt and soft leather sandals….. One of the stores I saw yesterday claims it has 120% linen clothing (whatever that means).
Yesterday I counted 3 cruise ships at anchor off the island. When the patrons of the cruise ships come into town, they all walk along the dock for a peek at the private yachts. You can always spot the cruise ship people with their short sleeve shirts tucked into the cargo shorts and camera around the neck.
As you stand at the end of the pasarail, loads of people will come and talk to you, trying to find out as much about the boat as possible. Generally they just want to know who owns the boat. Even if I could tell them, I really doubt they would even have heard of our owner. It would indeed be a let down. I know they are wanting me to tell them somebody important owns it –George Clooney or Donald Trump. Instead, I have to say, “sorry it’s confidential”. This only adds to the mystery.
Because of this constant questioning, the girls and I have been joking that next time someone asks, I will simply answer it belongs to Justin Bieber. I mean, why not?! The world has got Beiber fever, so why not roll with it?
